This post is about faithfulness, which isn't usually an Easter themed topic. My Dad preached a very powerful sermon about faithfulness featuring Mary Magdalene and the other Mary sitting by Jesus' tomb, so this lesson is titled Faithful for Easter because some of the artwork was inspired by this sermon. The lesson starts with the people shouting, "Hosanna," and welcoming Jesus into Jerusalem just 5 days before these same people were shouting, "Crucify him!" It’s easy to be faithful if everyone else is and when things are going well. It’s much harder to be faithful when it’s not popular or when things aren’t going well, like after Jesus was arrested. The next entry is about how Jesus was praying in the garden and his disciples were falling asleep after he had asked them to be there with him. Jesus stated, "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." If we desire to be faithful, we need to pray for God’s strength and power to enable us to be faithful. Lastly, let's look at the two Marys who were sitting by the tomb. What a beautiful picture of faithfulness. Although the others had fled, these two remained with Jesus even in death. This is being faithful during the good times and the bad. My desire is to be faithful like those two!
